From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/20020729
BuildID: 2002072908

Scrolling a certain bugzilla-page with some window widths leaves artifacts with
a fresh trunk-nightly on a Debian 2.2r7.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9449
2.Scroll with arrows past comment 13, 14 or 188 with window a bit narrower than
page width.

Actual Results: Always some artifacts at the right border of the page if the
window is a bit narrower than the page - to wide and the artifacts disappear.
Mostly they appear as grey bars as high as the textlines, in some cases at
coment 13 one can see a garbled version of the text "220" (which appears in text
to the left). Scrolling past comment 188 renders a black box at the right
border. Try scrolling with arrowkeys - using page down/page up or repainting the
window looks fine.

Expected Results: Look good as always. :)

Tested on a week old 1.0-nightly @ win98, and that worked fine.

Will attach screendump.

Not sure this is the right component, but perhaps at least better than Browser
general?
I encountered the same problem once, a few days ago, with 1.1b 2002072208 on
Win98, but I can't reproduce or remember the location where appeared
what graphic card, XFree and driver are you running Mozilla with ?
This machine has an old Riva128, X is 3.3.6 with svga driver. I've been running
Mozilla on it a long time, and extensively since 1.0RC1 without seeing anything
like this before. Should I try with another (branch)build on the same machine?
Atleast it is very reproducible...
Tested on same machine with latest nightly 1.0.1 without any problems. Same
thing still visible in restarted 1.1b though.
I noticed this also for some time now on various web pages, but couldn't find
a way to reproduce it. I see a different artifact in comment 13 of the Bugzilla
URL above (grey box on the right that disappears on repaint), but this at least
seems to be reproducible. -> Confirming

I don't think this is related to graphics hardware (it appeared only recently).

Mozilla 1.1b (build id 2002072204) on Linux, remote display on XFree 4.2.0
running on a PowerMac G3 with ATI Rage 128
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
worksforme, linux build 20020730, Riva TNT, XFree86 4.2.0
Still here with 20020730.
isn´t this a dupe of bug 159985 ?
No, I don't think so. Comment 6 confirms this on a build from 20020722, and the
first patch in bug 148598 (causing bug 159985) was not checked in until 0729.
However, one could see if the updated patch affects this in any way since it is
about background painting when scrolling...
The updated patch in bug 148598 just removes some XP_WIN code, so that will not
affect linux behaviour at all.
Ok, then that one can be ignored.

I tried saving the html which shows the problem, and took bits out of it. If one
cuts away comments above 13, the artifacts simply displays further down on the
page, so they stay at the same position relative to the page top. The
attachments-table can be removed too, but not the status-form at the page top
(then the artifacts disappear). And when I think about it, the left edge of all
the different artifacts seem to have the same position as the left edge of the
CC-box in the form. Don't have time to look closer at it now though.
Attached file Testcase
Ok, here is a simple testcase. First a form with a simple table to push a
selectbox out a bit on the page. Then simply a thousand numbered lines to give
plenty of space to test the problem. Edit the file or resize your browser so
the box is partly outside of the window. Then start line-by-line scrolling,
until some kind of artifact the size of the box appears on the right side.
The testcase was tried with an Solaris 1.1alpha-build (the latest available,
actually). The problem did not occur on the same machine with a 1.0.

On this machine the artifact is a solid black box, not the grey lines or garbled
box I had on the Linux machine at home. The artifact is the same size and
position as the selectbox. The selectbox must be multiple lines (have a
size-attribute) and positioned partly outside the window for the problem to display.

I think the exact location of the artifact might be rather machine-dependant
(lineheight etc), but here it was around line 230. The black box was 10 lines
high (as the selectbox), and reappeared at line 470 (230 + 10 +230) and line 710
(470 + 10 + 230) and line 950 (710 + 10 + 230). So if you find it one time, it
is quite easy to figure out the next location...

Even found it with trunk-20020731 @ Win98.
