Hmm... Could you please provide examples of applications that support Ctrl-U as a
shortcut for this purpose? [Neither IE 5 or Communicator 4.7 do]

If not, could you please provide an argument for why it should be done here, and
how users will figure it out?

In the last release of Communicator, Control-U displayed the page source.

Marking INVALID. Ctrl+U = View Source. If you have a very good reason why it
isn't, please reopen.

Motif/Gtk/tcsh etc all uses ^U to clear current entry/line.. Communicator 4.7 on
UNIX has this while focus is in the entry box.


Not as a "global" shortcut, but local in the entrybox.

to give more information than 'Not much to say...').

I think we'd best wait for the UI/UE folks to decide if/how this fits into the
new cross-platform UI of 5.0.

Sorry for the really **** description... In the Unix world, clearing the
entire field with ^U is very common. I'd say that most people I know will go
nuts if it doesn't go in.

Yes this is Linux/Unix _only_ since most keyboard shortcuts there use Alt as the
accelerator/qualifier key, so there is no conflict on this platform with View
Source which uses "U" also. Assigning to Don so he can assign to somebody in app
land...

For some reason, I never got cc'ed on this bug though I'm the owner of
platform-specific editor key bindings.  Dawn just pointed this lack out to me,
and now that platform keybindings are in (as of M12) I will add the ^U binding
asap.

Thank you, akkana, for taking resposibility for this.  I miss this feature,

which was in M9 FYI.  Also, ctrl-a and ctrl-e to go to the beginning and end of

the line do work in M12.



I think that many unix people would appreciate as many

readline-style bindings

as possible.  For example, I would love to use ctrl-r to

search up in the url

history.  I think there is a BSD licensed readline library

that you may be able

to steal from.

Fixed!  I just checked in implementation for delete-to-beginning, and the ^U
hookups in the keybinding files.  (Also fixed ^N for next-line, if anyone has
noticed that it wasn't working ... there was a typo in the files.)
