User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:71.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/71.0
Steps to reproduce:
With a dark GTK theme such as Adwaita-dark, use Firefox on Linux
Actual results:
The new tab page uses a light theme, unlike the rest of the browser's UI. The preferences page and websites using the prefers-color-scheme
media query use a dark theme as expected. The new tab page also properly uses a dark theme when Firefox's included dark theme is used, but I don't use it since it causes the UI to clash with the color scheme of the GTK theme.
Expected results:
The new tab page should respect the prefers-color-scheme
query when using a dark GTK theme.
Hi Alex,
I was able to reproduce this on Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS using:
- Firefox Nightly 73.0a1 (2019-12-16) (64-bit)
- Firefox Beta 72.0b5 (64-bit), Beta 72.0b7 (64-bit)
- Firefox Release 71.0 (64-bit)
By default, the new tab page will display as a light theme. You need to enable the Dark theme from about:addons so the new tab page gets displayed in dark mode:
Steps:
- Type about:addons
- Go to Themes
- Go to Disabled section
- On the Dark (disabled), click on the three dot menu and click "Enable".
I'll mark this ticket as an Enhancement for Firefox to open a new tab in dark mode as default, when using a dark GTK theme such as Adwaita-dark.
Regards,
Virginia
