User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/78.0.3904.108 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
Options>General>Applications>Portable Document Format - change from Preview In Firefox to Blue beam or Ecopy
Actual results:
While I have Firefox open, this works and PDF's are viewed in the selected PDF Viewer. However, when I close out of Firefox and reopen, I have to change the setting again, every time.
Expected results:
PDF viewer should remain as I have selected and not have to reset everyday.

Does this happen if you change the file handler for some other file type that is not PDF? e.g. If you change "Text Document" to some other setting, then restart Firefox does that also get reset?

It occurs after every Firefox update...
I'm so tired of selecting my default PDF viewer dozens of times every year.

I can change the file type for .xls to Excel and it stays, just PDF's is where I have the problem.

I still haven't been able to reproduce the issue.
Cletendre,
- Does this happen for you every time Firefox restarts, or only when there's a pending update?
- Have you done anything to disable the PDF viewer, such as using an enterprise policy with
DisableBuiltinPDFViewer
or changed the about:config variablepdfjs.disabled
?

This is happening to me as well. I try to set "Preview in Firefox" as the default behavior for opening a pdf file but it resets every time I open firefox.
Also, the "Do this automatically for files like the from now on." setting doesn't seem to ever be honored. I've tried to enable this for multiple different file types and I'm always prompted with the "What should Firefox do with this file?" popup each time I download a file.
Details:
Windows 10
Firefox 75.0 (54-bit)

Bug 1653807 and bug 1657460 may be related to this.

No word back from reporter. Hopefully some changes in this area of the code fixed it.
