Make sure you have a default account that is not "Local Folders". Read bug 1584861.
Merry Christmas, Wayne. In general, triaging is much easier when you know commonly reported bugs.
Hello, Jork,
thank you for your quick response.
Yes I had activated "Local Folders" as default account. The reason is that I installed the Add-on "Manually sort folders". I have many e-mail accounts in Thunderbird. Therefore I defined "Local Folders" as default. So it appeared in the first place. Since the update to 68.3.1 it is no longer possible that "Local Folders" appears on top of the list.
But thanks a lot, the problem that emails are not automatically retrieved after Thunderbird starts is solved.
Thanks
Claus

Is this the first reference to manually sort folders as the primary cause of the Local folders being set to default?

TB alone won't let you set Local Folders as default account. After so many bugs, I'd be inclined to make it work even if Local Folders is the default, but I guess that's what bug 880602 is all about.
