  • all

Affected platforms

  • Windows 10

Steps to reproduce

  1. Log into Netflix.
  2. Play a video.
    https://www.netflix.com/watch/80189599?trackId=13752289&tctx=0%2C0%2Cd42a91a1b4ef7ae56951761c130e92f9e37b3944%3A18f315621ccb8fbebdd2f607b39249aedda9aa23%2C%2C
  3. Put PC to sleep while the video is playing.
  4. Reopen the PC from sleep and log into the user if necessary.

Expected result

  • The audio and video are properly being played back.

Actual result

  • The video is being resumed, but the sound is cut; only to come back after a tab restart.

Additional notes

  • The behavior is Chrome is different: When the user puts his Windows PC to sleep while a Netflix is playing when he reopens the session, the video is paused, needs action to make it start playing again and the sound works as intended.
  • This issue also occurs just the same with a Youtube video.
  • This issue may be related to hardware because it does occur on of 3/4 test machines.

P3 - Resume from sleep issues are something we've seen before with Widevine. It would be nice to squash them all, but they can be nasty.

I am seeing something similar under windows 10.
Repeat-BY:
I play a youtube video .
I go to a kitchen to pick up a snack, but I may stay there more than I would thought I would.
Come back to the PC.
I find the PC has gone to sleep (or wait, not even sleep, just blanking out the screen due to power save feature?.).
When I hit the keyboard and windows come up from sleep state, the video keeps on playing without sound.

My trick to restart the sound is

  • halt the video for a moment.
  • click on the speaker icon on the task bar
change the sound volume a tiny bit, and hear the beep sound when I do that.
  • Come back to firefox and restart the video from where I halted.
    This time sound comes back.

I am using the HDMI sound from a nvidia graphics card. That may be the cause.

I am using the Japanese version of firefox, and about:config is attached in raw data format.
