Steps to reproduce:

Using MacOS 10.15.2 (Catalina) when clicking "About Thunderbird" or "Preferences under the Thunderbird menu item produces nothing. Work around is to use "hamburger" at top-right Thunderbird window.

Actual results:

No window was produced.

Expected results:

Window describing Thunderbird version, etc. or Preferences pane should be displayed.

OS: Unspecified → macOS

Works for me with TB 68.3.1 on Catalina. Can you try with all Add-ons disabled (see Help menu)?

Running in safe mode (all Add-Ons disabled) had NO effect on bug. I'm also seeing Bug 1599949.

When you're also seeing Bug 1599949 then you are still on TB 60? Then please update to TB 68 as TB60 gets no development any more.

Sorry, I am NOT seeing Bug 1599949 (unopened email appears correctly). Troubleshooting information says Version 68.3.1, Build ID 20191215232630.

Now on Thunderbird 68.5.0, Mac OS 10.15.3 on Macbook Pro A1502. Yes, problem goes away with new profile.

sounds like Bug 1612456 - About & Preferences windows don't appear (on Mac) when there's a master password and security.prompt_for_master_password_on_startup is set to true

It does sound like Bug 1612456. I do not have a master password set, and setting one had no effect.

Currently on Thunderbird 68.7.0 and Catalina 10.15.4.

Because of what you wrote in comment 7. Working in a new profile implies something, perhaps non-standard, in your profile causing the problem.

Let's get more information - open tools > developer > error console, hit the trash can; then do Help > about; what do you see in the error console?

Clicked on "hamburger" (upper right corner) -> Tools -> Developer Tools -> Error Console
In the console there were no messages. Clicked on trash can anyway.
Turned on all message types.
There's no "About" under Thunderbird Help menu.
Under "Thunderbird" menu clicked on "About Thunderbird".
Got nothing. No about message, no messages on error console.

Whiteboard seems to be way of categorizing bugs, although Phoenix used none of the tags?
