An ellipsis only makes sense when there's something before the ellipsis. If
space is so tight that only the ellipsis can be printed, print a couple of
letters instead, as it's more useful.
Screenshot demonstrates how only having the space for ellipsises (ellipsi?)
prevents useful hints - first character of title, say, from being shown.

And the frontmost tabbed page doesn't even _have_ a title, so there's
nothing to elide bar the mozilla build information...

This is actually a dup of bug 155325?
*** Bug 172432 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Bug 172432 contains a good example and a proposal to make it better (strip
common prefixes). When reading many articles on a newssite like /. I have many
tabs open so I don't forget to read them later. I think this happens often
enough to include that fix that Frank proposed in bug 172432.

MASS-CHANGE:
This bug report is registered in the SeaMonkey product, but has been without a comment since the inception of the SeaMonkey project. This means that it was logged against the old Mozilla suite and we cannot determine that it's still valid for the current SeaMonkey suite. Because of this, we are setting it to an UNCONFIRMED state.

If you can confirm that this report still applies to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it back to the NEW state along with a comment on how you reproduced it on what Build ID, or if it's an enhancement request, why it's still worth implementing and in what way.
If you can confirm that the report doesn't apply to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it to the appropriate RESOLVED state (WORKSFORME, INVALID, WONTFIX, or similar).
If no action happens within the next few months, we move this bug report to an EXPIRED state.

Still valid for SeaMonkey 2.0a3.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
The real issue here is that we need some form of very-many-tabs UI, and that's bug 155325.
