Details
From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux 2.4.18, i686; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/20020728 BuildID: 2002072818 Every time I use mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-installer it completely deletes the previous installation, including the plugins subdirectory. I have to keep a duplicate of this directory around in order to get the plugger, acrobat, realplay, Flash, and java plugins to work again. The RH rpm distibutions in Red_Hat_7x_RPMS/ keep the plugins, but have the disadvantage that you need to download a dozen rpms at each update. Could the installer script be modified so as to keep the plugins of the previous installation? Alternatively, could there be a generic /usr/local/mozilla subdirectory which keeps the local modifications, and let each installation create a subdirectory /usr/local/mozilla-2002072818, for example. This is done in xemacs, where the local stuff resides in /usr/local/lib/xemacs, and the release-specific stuff in /usr/local/lib/xemacs-21.5.7, for example. And for those of use who also keep a Netscape-7 around, this could be a common extra-plugin directory. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Run the install-linux 2. When ist asks for removal of previous installation say yes. 3. Installation works fine, but all but the libnullplugin are gon. Expected Results: Preserve old plugins, replace only libnullplugin.so!

the directory is nuked so that nothing gets left behind that might screw up the new installation. Most of what you're talking about is covered in bug 69153 (among other things...). If you feel there is something here that deserves to be separate from bug 69153, please reopen *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 69153 ***
