Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:72.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/72.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Installed latest version of browser on windows 10.
  2. Tried to add the extension "AdBlockPlus" (https://adblockplus.org)
  3. Browser indicated that it was added. However the extension did not appear in the "searchbar" and did not indicate successfully installed.
  4. Select "Add-ons Manager" from the browser's menu and click "manage" for the addon.
  5. Upon ticking "Allow" for "Run In Private Windows" a new tab appears indicating successful installation.

Issue was also replicated with the "LastPass" addon (https://lastpass.com) too.

Actual results:

Browser indicated that the addon had been added however the addon's icon did not appear in the searchbar and the successfully installed message did not appear.

Expected results:

Addon should have installed successfully without the need to enable the "Run In Private Windows" option for the addon.

Hi,
Thanks for reporting this issue. I tried to reproduce it but was unable to.

Could you please try creating a new profile and seeing if the issue still occurs?

Thanks

I tried to replicate the issue using windows10 64bit and the latest Firefox release 72.0.1
and the addon installed just fine.

Please download the latest Firefox Nightly release from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/ and retest the problem.

If you still have the issue please create a new profile, you have the steps here:https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Managing-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager

Lastly test if the issue is reproducible in safe mode, here is a link that can help you:

We (the webextensions QA team) tried to reproduce the issue without success . Please let us know if you have any other extensions installed and if a you can reproduce in a new profile. If you can still reproduce it , can you please attach a video in order to see if we are performing the same steps?

Best Regards,
Victor

I suspect the user is in permanent private browsing, can you try to reproduce under that situation?

We tested again around the described behavior and we think that everything is working as expected. We tried with the browser in permanent private browsing, with following results:

  1. After clicking on "Add to Firefox" button for Adblock Plus, we were asked to confirm the permissions - EXPECTED

  2. After confirming the permissions by pressing "Add" button, a popup saying that "Adblock plus has been added to Nightly" is displayed together with "Allow extension to run in Private Windows" checkbox, unchecked by default. Please note that at this point, the Extension is already visible in "Add-ons manager", but it's not active and not present in Toolbar unless the checkbox is checked. - EXPECTED

3.Check the "Allow extension to run in Private Windows" checkbox and press the "Okay, Got it" button. At this point , the extension will be active in private windows and also icon is visible in toolbar - EXPECTED

4.Repeat the steps from above, but do not check "Allow extension to run in Private Windows" checkbox. At this point the extension is visible in Addon manager, but not visible in toolbar since it is not allowed to operate in Private mode(We can manually change that in addon manage options). - EXPECTED

Based on info from above, can we mark the issue as invalid?

Without more input from the reporter we'll close this.
