User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:73.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/73.0

Steps to reproduce:

Type g in the location url

Actual results:

Show google.com in first place

Expected results:

Show bookmark starting with g, but not google.com !

Since i've removed google.com from search engine, since i completely disabled browsing history, why google.com keep being appear in first place when i type the g letter ?

He not come from browsing history (private mode by default) or bookmark, so, where does he come from ?

Hi,

Thank you for submitting this report. Unfortunately I couldn't reproduce the issue on Windows 10x64, Mac 10.14 and Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS with the latest English and French Firefox versions (Release 72, Beta 73, Nightly 74).
Can you try again using a clean profile (https://goo.gl/AWo6h8), maybe even in Safe mode (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode), with the latest Firefox Nightly version and see if the problem still persists? You can find the latest Firefox Nightly here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/.
Also, it can be useful if you can add a list with the installed add-ons from the browser (if there are add-ons installed, you can find them in about:addons, at the "Extensions" section).

Hi,

Thanks for the response.

That's very strange, because i've not touched anything into settings/bookmark, nor restarted firefox, and the google entry is gone...

To be sure, i created a clean profile, maybe something was corrupt in the previous one.

For the info, i use this addon :

  • uBlock Origin
  • HTTPS Everywhere

I don't understand how this entry become the first when i type G in the address bar, and now it simply disappear...

Please search history and bookmarks (you can use the Library or the sidebar) and check you don't have any url containing google.com.

Did you ever use third party cleaners (for example CCleaner) to cleanup Firefox? Those are known to leave behind orphans and cause this kind of issues, thus we always suggest to only use internal Firefox tools for proper cleanup.

Ive already do that thinking that was an old entry before i moved to private mode by default, and i found nothing.

No i don't use third party cleaner, i'm on debian, and everything is system wide configured for don't keep any history.

The entry is gone by himself, that's good, but i don't like seeing problem appear and disappear like this, that's show something is wrong, either on my system, or in firefox

Did you visit google.com before you enabled private mode by default? Enabling private mode by default doesn't clear your previous history, at least not your previous autofill history. You'll have to clear your history. After that, google.com should not be autofilled.

Also, this is not related to whether you've removed the Google search engine from Firefox.

Priority: -- → P5

Yes someone visited google with my computer, but i cleared the history, and also checked in history panel that nothing appear appear when y type google.

Infortunaly, google was always present in autofill history...

I'm not able to reproduce that, and I'm not sure what the problem could be. If you cleared history after the google.com visit, and you either removed google.com directly or used a sufficient clear-history time frame (e.g., "everything"), google.com should have been removed from autofill. Of course maybe there's a bug somewhere, but it's very hard to say now. It's also possible your database was/is corrupt. You can try opening about:support and clicking the "Verify Integrity" button under the "Places Database" section.

There's not much actionable here so I'll close this. If it's still happening and there are good STR, please let us know.
