161001 - Splash screen should be smaller

As discussed in bug 152464, the splash screen is much too obtrusive and takes up
too much screen real-estate, even though it doesn't really do anything except
sit there on the screen. The splash should be similar in size to that of Mozilla.

This proposed splash screen is almost 60 % smaller than the original, making it
similar in size to Mozilla's splash. The various elements have been
independently scaled down --for instance, the icon is only 25 % smaller than in
the original.

I agree that the splash needs to be much smaller.  This attachment is what I
think it should look like.

I think that both the new 549x328 in the 8/16 build, and the other small splash
proposed in this bug, seem a bit unbalanced.  I would suggest putting the large
horizontal blue bar somewhat above center to compensate for the text and drop
shadow below.

Hmh. The splash has indeed been changed, and I agree that it's not balanced.
Neither is my original proposition. And to be honest, I don't think the
original splash image can be made to look balanced. The main bulk of it lies
heavily on the left.

Therefore I am suggesting a top-down approach, with a sample of how this might
work attached.

I would have to say I agree with the vertical splash screen much more.  
Although the design is just pure eye-candy, the idea of making it vertical 
means you can see more on the screen.  Since monitors are wider then 
they are tall windows on the screen are pretty wide, meaning with a 
vertical splash screen you could see around it other stuff that is 
happening.  Just my 2 cents...

I propose making the splash screen into a Panel, as a box such as this should
not be used in OS X, IMHO. It could also have a minimize button, so that users
who want it out of the way can. I really don't care about the aspect ratio,
however I also agree that it should be smaller in some way.

Camino's splash screen is smaller now - it looks just fine to me. I think this
bug should be marked as fixed.
