From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/20020801 BuildID: 20020801 After re-configuring my SMTP accounts I recieved an error like this upon attempting to send an e-mail: Unable to connect to SMTP server %S. I have attempted to re-configure my SMTP accounts, use different servers and attempt sending via a different POP account but none have worked. I also seem to be finding blank listings in the "Advanced" tab of the SMTP configuration. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Begin composing e-mail 2. Attempt sending 3. Recieve error Actual Results: recieved error message about not being able to connect to %S Expected Results: Send the e-mail
Reporter: I had something similar, but I was able to fix it myself. I got in the mess when I noticed that there were 2 identical smtp-servers configured (this is an old bug that comes back to me every few weeks), and I deleted one. All looked fine, but I got the same errors as you. I went the the Mail Preferences, and made sure that the SMTP-server of my mail-account was hanged. In my case, I switched from 'always use default SMPT server' to the one SMTP-server left. That fixed it.
I have encountered the same problems (see both comments above) on Linux, Mozilla 1.1a and 1.1b. In addition, only the first SMTP-server is used, even if another one is set to default (#160813). Maybe this is a related bug?
I'm sorry: I haven't encountered the "Unable to connect to SMTP server %S." in 1.1b but only in 1.1a. When I created a new profile under 1.1a, I also had multiple entries of the same SMTP server, one entry for each added POP account. When I deleted one of them, I got this message and also an empty entry in the SMTP server list which reappeared after deleting. Under 1.1b, I also get one copy of the same SMTP server for each POP account. But I did not get the %S-message, and I could also delete the entries without problems (so far).
Problem also occurs with Netscape Mail in Netscape 6.2.3 after using the Mozilla accounts and settings. So it's my best bet that Mozilla is having a problem writing the settings properly.
I have the same problem. It began when I upgraded from Release Candidate 3 to 1.1. I have 2 POP3 accounts and one SMTP account defined. Durint the install somehow the POP3 accounts got switched and SMTP stopped working - it now always gives the error that it can't connect to server %S
