Since 68.4. I have been getting this message

Unable to save your message as a draft.
You specified that this message should be digitally signed, but the application either failed to find the signing certificate specified in your Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings, or the certificate has expired.

I had not changed the certificate for almost a year, but upon checking it is valid until Sunday, February 23, 2020

Issued by
Common name (ca) Actalis Client Authentication CA G1
Organization (o) Actalis S.p.A./03358520967
Organizational Unit (ou) <Not Part Of Certificate>

The fact there is an error is bad enough, but having the write window steal focus from not only Thunderbird, but whatever program has focus, to give me this message every time it tries to save a draft is infuriating. Between that and the system not remembering the SSL certificate offered to Yahoo and Freenode I am getting quite frustrated.

Probably need more data about the certificate to be able to investigate.

Component: General → Security

What data is needed?

Any of my email's or posts for the past 9 months will have the digital signature. You probably have it in your certificate store.
BTW I just created a new certificate with he same comany for another email address, imported it and it works without error.

Since it's mostly mailing list posts, they don't have a sig.
I did find an email too, but it's

S/N 35:21:6D:67:D4:E5:D6:93:56:A0:D9:28:6F:AB:B4:96
From Comodo, expiring jan 7 2020

I suspect the selection of which cert to use (in the prefs) didn't take effect I've seen it do strange things, but never figured out how to reproduce.

I will note this, and close the bug, as I really don't think there is much to do here except note that the certificate must be restated after the update.

The certificate as added to Thunderbird in February last year contained just the email address in the Security dialog.

I have now cleared the certificate from the account settings and restated the same certificate, (nothing else). As can be seen from the image, there is now a serial number included in the description that was not there previously and it works. So I think there was a change, without any update code for existing settings
