Details

After upgrading Firefox, it works normally for some time then starts displaying "one small thing, we need to restart" in every new tab. That's its usual behaviour.

The "one small thing" message happens for not just genuinely new tabs, but also for tabs that had been for some reason unloaded (like, have not been switched to since session restore, been evicted due to low memory, etc). And if "one small thing" is shown, then after restart, the tab's contents is gone. Its caption shows "New Tab", there's no back button enabled, it's not in history, etc. I found no way to recover it other than restoring the profile from last backup (fortunately, I snapshot /home hourly thanks to btrfs).

A tab that's unloaded but haven't been switched to between Firefox discovers it wants to restart and the actual restart is restored normally.

This just happened to my FF session.

This sounds similar to bug 1608697. Have you still seen this problem in Firefox 74 or later?

I assume this is the same as bug 1608697. Otherwise, if you still see the bug, please let us know.

I don't know the exact version that I was using 4 months ago when adding my initial comment. The nature of when this behavior is experienced makes it difficult to reproduce. We'd have to wait until Firefox is automatically updated in the background (on Ubuntu, in my case).

Also, based on the info for the "duplicate" bug, it should be noted that I'm not using any proxy.

Confirmed: upgrade to 77, with a bunch of "one small thing" tabs deliberately triggered this way, does not lose contents after restart.

Thanks for the fix!
