From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020530 BuildID: 2002053012 Moz should allow me to render all spam and web sites in my default encoding, because I can't read Chinese-Simplified regardless as to how it's encoded. Okay. I speak english, and I read our standard (what, roman?) alphabet. I also speak french, but that's not the deal here. Every now and then, I see a request in mail or the browser that asks me if I want to download this nifty character set so that I can display spam or a web page in the character set for which it was written. Now, I am sure it's a fine character set, and someone went to a lot of trouble to bundle it up so that I could download and use it, but it's useless to me; I neither READ, nor UNDERSTAND the character set, nor do I even speak the language encoded therein. While I respect the diverse people who probably enjoy speaking that language and I'm sure it's a very nice language, I CAN'T READ IT. So. I don't want Moz to ask me every freakin' day whether I want to download chinese simplied, or EUC_JP or anything, because it's no good if it does. I can't read it. It's useless to me, and I LIKE my ISO-8859-1 encoding. I want everything rendered (badly or well) like that. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.wait for chinese .cn domain spam 2.open mail 3.notice, after a huge wait, the chinese simplified download request. Actual Results: After a lovely wait (hey, it's mozilla) of a few seconds, the download request comes up. I swear a bit, mainly about the delay, find my mouse and click Cancel. Expected Results: It shouldn't freakin' ask me! It should have a "I'm a dumb yank and I don't wanna see no international stuff anyway" checkbox so I can avoid downloading 85 Mb of various encodings that just take up space. Do I want to download 85 different character encoding add-ons? If so, why was it not included in the release package of moz? Thank you for listening to my bug report.
