Steps to reproduce:
Nothing
Actual results:
So I'm not sure what has changed, but way too many pieces of good mail are being labeled as spam ever since I updated to the most major update. Sorry, I don't remember what version I was on before. It's in another bug thread if you really need me to dig for it.
And there's no way to tweak the spam assassin settings right? So it's either I uncheck it & I start to get tons of spam (I assume), or I keep it checked & I have to deal with this.
And I don't think TB is being trained when I tell it that they aren't spam & of course in some of my accounts it doesn't even move them from the junk to the inbox, so there's that issue.
Expected results:
Good mail that I never had issues with before (the sender) shouldn't be marked as spam.
Or I tell it once or twice it's not spam & in the future, I shouldn't see them in my spam folder.

Thunderbird doens't ship with any training data - it uses your actions of marking messages as spam or not to train. If it started marking some as junk, make sure to unmark them as such.

Tuning spam assassin can only be done in spam assassin settings, not in Thunderbird. Although you could perhaps tune using Thunderbird filters to catch spam assassin mail headers.
@Wayne - how do you catch Spam Assasin mail headers & how will that stop SA from tagging good mail spam?
To me it makes no sense.
If SA is responsible for this, I would have had this problem when I was on the older version of TB, but it's increased a lot since I upgraded.
Unless the older version wasn't working well with SA.
Thanks

The initial question that must be answered, is are the messages being flagged as spam by spamassassin, or marked as Junk by Thunderbird??
IIRC correctly from my SA days, when a message is flagged by spamassassin as spam and you have the Trust SA setting enabled, then a message is sent to the SPAM folder but does NOT have Thunderbird's junk icon
@Wayne - they say SPAM & they go into the junk folder. There is no spam folder on TB unless you create one manually.
You & I did that once to a few accounts b/c they weren't working.
Again the other day more mail that I've been getting for years is now being labeled as spam & going into my junk folder.
And the Not junk icon isn't working properly. For one piece of mail it says Junk so I can't tell TB it's not spam & have it go into the inbox, & for the other it says Not Junk.

Sorry I don't have better news, but there's nothing we can do here. The items you see in the junk folder that say "SPAM" are set by Spamassassin, which is in control. The junk icon won't be relevant to these messages, and marking them as junk/not junk, will have no lasting affect. If you turn off "Trust..." in Thunderbird settings, then you can use junk training and the spamassassion marking will have no effect.
P.S. I forgot to mention that the SA doesn't work well at all LOL In 2 of my other accounts I get TONS of spam in my inbox & SA never filters it, yet it labels the good mail in other accounts.
This is why years ago after working my blank off for about a month when I moved to a new hoster, I gave up on SA. It never filtered the spam & it would also lose good mail.
One needs to train it, yes, but not kill themselves training it & it should work well eventually after a couple of weeks.
So if I use just the junk, do you think it will do a lot better? I guess there's only one way to find out LOL
Thanks
