User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:72.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/72.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Start firefox, 2. logon to any web site requiring authentication by means of a smart card and pin. 3. Remove the smart card. 4. Try to connect to any other website

Actual results:

Firefox can't reach any website. Firefox loses network connection permanently (cant resolve any address) until restart, even though it is still fully responsive. Barely any CPU usage. Memory usage is slowly growing.

Expected results:

Nothing, Firefox should be capable of resolving any site even after smart card removal.

Hi m.llorente,
Is this also reproducible on the latest Firefox Nightly? You can download it from here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/

This could be the same issue as described in Bug 936407, moving it to the component so developers can take a look at it.

Hi Timea, thx for your uberfast reply. To my understanding it is not the same issue, given ff doesn't freeze at all in my case. It just cant reach any website, but the app is responsive, I can navigate the menus and CPU use is just normal. I'll give a try to FNightly asap and I'll report back.

Also, it would help if you used Process Explorer to see what Firefox is doing in this state. Thanks!

Hi all:
Today after some W10 updates, the issue is no longer there. Updates that I have installed today include the following:
Accumulative W10 version 1909 for x64 - KB4532695
.NET framework 3.5&4.8 for W10 version 1909 for x64 - KB4534132
Thx for your support!
