Desc: I had downloaded a nightly build, installed it. Worked fine. Installed a theme from a frind of mine. Didn't know it was Mac-only. Crashed. Tried to get Moz working again. No luck. Completely uninstalled it. I downloaded the full installer (Moz 1.0), started said program. Chose install options (install dir and such). The install/progress window came up, then a windows error came up, saying that thi program had caused an error in "jar50.dll". It won't finish installation. Steps to reproduce: 1.Install moz. Crash with theme. 2.Uninstall completely. 3.Attempt to reinstall any recent version of Moz (haven't tried any of the ancient ones) 4.See error message. 5.Done. Actual results: I got the error mesage that this program had caused an error in jar50.dll. Expected results: Install the program. Additional info: I tried everything to get rid of the effects of the theme/crash. Every bit of Mozilla is removed from my system. It is as if I had never installed the program. And I don't even have a jar50.dll! Though I did try re-installing when I had the dll; it doesn't work either way.
Jamie, what was the latest version you tried? Nightly builds occasionally don't work, so try another. As "jar50.dll" is a mozilla component, any problem with it should go away when you delete all of previous installations and perform a clean install. I'll try a nightly when I get into work (and a decent connection) to see if I get a problem with jar50.dll in the latest nightly, but I'll be surprised if there is. Also, Mozilla themes are (I thought) cross-platform - what was your friend's theme? If it was an old (sometime pre-moz1) then the problem may have stemmed from it using obsolete XUL syntax.
>Jamie, what was the latest version you tried? Nightly builds occasionally don't >work, so try another. I did. I had downloaded a nightly build and crashed it with this theme, then went to install Mozilla 1.0 after a clean uninstall. It didn't work, leaving me with that error about the dll. >As "jar50.dll" is a mozilla component, any problem with it should go away when >you delete all of previous installations and perform a clean install. I know, which is why I find it so amazing that it won't install at all due to this non-existant dll. Every install I have tried has resulted in this error. I have tried everything from moz 1.0 to the old milestone releases that I had on disk. Nothing would install. I've searched the computer using more than one utility, and I know for sure that this dll _does not exist_ on my machine. >I'll try a nightly when I get into work (and a decent connection) to see if I >get a problem with jar50.dll in the latest nightly, but I'll be surprised if >there is. I don't think there is, because the install worked on another computer that didn't suffer the crash, but did not work on a computer that I had intentionally crashed in the same conditions to test to see if it was reproducable or just a freak occurance. >Also, Mozilla themes are (I thought) cross-platform - what was your friend's >theme? If it was an old (sometime pre-moz1) then the problem may have stemmed >from it using obsolete XUL syntax. As I understand it, he used some Mac-specific widgets or some such- I had also been under the impression that all themes were cross-platform. I don't have the old name off-hand, but it is now called MadeForMac. :) I don't think he's submitted it to any theme sites yet because of this problem. I can attach the theme here if you want. It truly had me puzzeled; I tried it on both my linux box and my windows box, and after getting rid of the theme, only the Linux version of Moz worked. The theme _was_ pre moz-1.0, and it crashed just as well after he re-wrote it to make sure that it conformed to recent syntax.

Yes, it would help if you could provide a copy of the theme to try. Just for the record, WFM 2002080218 WinME, 2002080614 WinNT4
works for me. please uninstall mozilla completly before installing a new build.
