upon completion of installation the build tries to launch but crashes
subsequent attempts to start the app also crash.

i got this too. after installing nightly installer build from 2002 08 06, mozilla crashes when it is launched. im using windows 2000. upgraded from 1.1b release. tried uninstalling and deleting the mozilla program dir before installing and it still crashes after the splash screen. should i report more info (like anything from the dr watson log)?

My Linux build that I built myself starts fine.  Is this windows-only?  Do

mac osx trunk lunched fine.  I have seen a linux trunk build yet today.

My self-built W2k debug build asserts on first start up in
xptiInterfaceEntry::ResolveLocked then immediately crashes with an access
violation. Second start up is OK.

I got this too when installing from 2002-08-06-12 branch on Win00. Both Zip
install  and full install. No problem with 2002-08-06-04 branch or previous days

i think this had to do with dependencies; making clean on the build system
(after a couple of link failures trying to find symbols) seems to have produced
non-crashing builds based on the 8-am source code.

This is probably a dupe of bug 156711. Try zapping the xpti.dat file and see if
that helps.

I'm reopening this because it looks like a lot of users are crashing with
Netscape 7.01.  The stack signature is the same, but the stack looks a little
different...but almost all the comments mention crashing on launch.  Here is the

If comment #14 is really a workaround for this crash, maybe we need to release
note it?  We should test this and see if anyone can reproduce this crash...and
see if "zapping the xpti.dat file" really helps get around this problem.

I also noticed a few crashes in Mozilla 1.2.1 Talkback data...so adding M121 to
summary for tracking.

Are the crashes you're seeing with 1.2.1 crashes on startup?  If not, please
file a different bug for them.

Bug 156711 is pretty much the same as bug 167174. Both deal with old xpt info
from old builds. So essentially yes, bug 156711 should be fixed now, with the
exception of manual copying and other nefarious acts by users that would pair
new code with old compreg.dat and xpti.dat files.

I think the fix for 156711 also got rid of these crashes.  I'm going to mark
this fixed based on that and the fact that I haven't seen this crash in Talkback
data for a while.

If anyone disagrees or is able to reproduce this with a recent MozillaTrunk
build, please feel free to reopen.  Thanks.

Just wanted to note that although this is fixed on the MozillaTrunk, it is still
a problem on the Gecko1.0 branch.  If we need to address this issue for any
future releases/milestones on the Gecko1.0 branch, bug 156711 might help.
