Steps to reproduce:

Installed 73.0b1 Toolbar reverted to default. (no reply, forward, etc.; all toolbar with text + icon)

Actual results:

Toolbar reverted to default.

Expected results:

Toolbar retain customization.

Mail toolbar, Composition toolbar, Calendar Toolbar or Message Header toolbar?

I can customize all but the Message Header toolbar.

I thought it was a new feature with the redesign of Thunderbird for version 78.0.

What is your value of the pref mail.ui-rdf.version, Doug?

Flags: needinfo?(dmccammishjr)

Have not found "mail.ui-rdf.version" in any file in thunderbird profile or X86 runtime or troubleshooting detail? Have not found "mail.ui" or "rdf" Need guidance.

What is your value of the pref mail.ui-rdf.version, Doug?

If it helps, mine has a Status of "Modified" and a Value of "19".
Version 73.0b2
Build ID 20200130233209

Reset it, Value is now "0", restarted Thunderbird and I still can't customize the Message Header items.
I see a Value of "19" enables the Menu Bar.

TB 68 was the last version with configurable header toolbar.

Disagree (I think). The installation of 73.0b1 removed customization in the main mail window toolbar. The bug 1556261 referenced only the individual message toolbar. I am able to re-customize the main toolbar. It is the installation that is the issue.

Could you provide more detailed Steps to Reproduce?
What do you mean by installation?

I installed 73.0b1, didn't create any email accounts and was able to customize the Mail Toolbar in the main window without a problem.

I installed 73.0b1, didn't create any email accounts and was able to customize the Mail Toolbar in the main window without a problem.

I had a "production" version of TBird installed with a customized toolbar and had regularly installed beta versions following that. When I installed 73.0b1 with the new UI, my toolbar customizations disappeared. So, the steps to reproduce would be, (1) install some version prior to 73, (2) customize the main mail toolbar (e.g., "view" "toolbars", "customize" add some icon change the text visibility, (3) then install 73.0b1 and see if your toolbar customizations remain.
I just tried to do this and found that I can't go back to a previous version without recreating my profiles. The profiles are not compatible and, apparently, the 73.0b1 install moved them forward. It's not hard to "re-customize" the toolbar. If the problem is real, I don't know how much stink will be raised, so I don't know if it is worthwhile to pursue this. Not my call to disregard.

You can go back to a previous version if you start it with --allow-downgrade.

See Unable to launch an older version

I've never seen the problem updating versions on the Beta update channel.

Other customizations to the main TBird window also disappear at installation. Try this, move the "unread mail" indicator (green dot) from the 4th column to the 6th column, then install 74.0b2 or some new beta version. The "unread mail" indicator will move back to the 4th column.
So far, my customizations to the toolbar in 73.0bx have persisted in 74.0bx.

The above may be a new bug, since the toolbar customization issue only occurred during the installation of 73.0b1 and has not recurred in subsequent installations. The toolbar issue would only be a problem during an upgrade from "old" versions to 73. This issue seems to recur ar every installation. (i.e., 73.0b4 - 74.0b1 and 74.0b1 - 74.0b2)

Have lost toolbar customization only once in recent Daily updates. (about Daily 2020-04-18, I think) Last two Daily installs have retained customization.

Reporter, do you still see this issue when using a current version?

WFM based on comment 13.
I don't think thunderbird is causing this.
