I spent some over the past month or so thinking about improvements we can make to writing experiments and letting experiment extensions create their own types of results with custom views. Mike suggested I file a bug so that this work is tracked and pointed, even though it's not work that will land anywhere.
I posted my initial proposal to Slack and it's here: https://gist.github.com/0c0w3/f1d74c1c3e51b4091cd6a1f3e211dcbb [1]
I'll consider this bug to cover that initial proposal, so I'll mark it complete. I'll file another bug to cover the next stage: incorporating feedback and working on a prototype.
[1] Mike asked me why I made a gist and not a Google doc for example. It's because I wanted to interleave text and supporting code with minimum fuss and nice syntax highlighting, and Google Docs isn't so great for that. A big downside of doing it this way though is that you can't comment inline like you can with Google Docs. I also considered writing it as a pull request on a new repo, which would let you comment inline, but decided that was too much.
