User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:73.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/73.0

Steps to reproduce:

Printed a PDF from the PDF view. PDF is from journals-sagepub-com.

Actual results:

Boxes appeared at every space between characters (see attached pdf)

Expected results:

It should have printed normally. This is not the first time I have encountered this exact issue with scholarly journal pdfs. I only experience this issue in Firefox. PDFs printed in Chrome/Chromium-based browsers, Safari, and in Preview (OSX) are all as they appear on the screen.

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.

  1. Can you reproduce this issue if you "Print to PDF" or is it only when you print to an actual printer?
  2. Is page 2 of the attached document extracted directly from the document and does it reproduce the problem if printed?

Brendan,

  1. I just tested "print to pdf" and there was no issue when viewing the pdf. So it is only when printing to an actual printer.
  2. Page 2 was extracted directly from the document and combined with the scan of the printed page. It only reproduces the problem when printing via firefox.

I just tried downloading the pdf and then opening the downloaded pdf via firefox and printing (rather than viewing the webpage ending in .pdf) and it presented the same issue.

Does this bug still exist?

If so, can you provide the URL / Link where you downloaded the original pdf file?

And you mentioned, that this also occured when you downloaded the pdf with Firefox and printed it afterwards. Which tool did you use for printing? and is the behaviour visible on th downloaded file as well?

Thanks!
