When mozilla is the owner of clipboard data (do "copy"), other app can't paste content from Clipboard if the mozilla has been closed. reproduce step: 1. copy content from mozilla 2. close mozilla 3. paste expected result: something be pasted actual result: nothing be pasted
Are we talking about CLIPBOARD or PRIMARY here? Are you copying via the menus or just by highlighting? I was under the impression that a CLIPBOARD selection required the app providing the selection to be running to retrieve it....
I test both CLIPBOARD and PRIMARY, they are same. If as you said, "a CLIPBOARD selection required the app providing the selection to be running to retrieve it....", only PRIMARY has the problem. I saw the code of nsClipboard before, it seems there is no code to deal with putting data to PRIMARY when mozilla exits, although there is an interface "ForceDataToClipboard" which seem to do this.
is this a regression?
Adding Pavlov: didn't we use to copy the selection to gnome's (or kde's? Aren't they supposed to be getting more compatible?) clipboard when we exited? If not, is there already a bug covering this? Does this need to be updated for gnome2?
This is the way X cut & paste works. The process claiming CLIPBOARD or PRIMARY must be running in order to serve pastes. At paste time, the data source and the data sink communicate (through the X server) to decide the right data format and exchange data. You might find <http://www.jwz.org/doc/x-cut-and-paste.html> useful.
