Maybe relates to bug 1616638.

What website are you on when the bug happens?

No particular one. The screenshot shows https://wordpress.org/plugins/woo-order-export-lite/ but it really happens on different websites as well.

Does it seem to happen when specific actions are taken?

Yes, only after resume it happens until I move the mouse:

  1. Suspend
  2. Resume after some time
  3. Log screen shows. Type in password to unlock
  4. Firefox shows glitches (it seems to happen more after resuming after a few hours rather than a minute or so, but this might be also my imagination). I cannot reproduce 100%.

If moving the mouse over a glitched tab name, or page, then the glitch goes away.

How frequently does the bug happen and can you ‘make’ it happen?

Maybe one in ten cases after resuming.

I would not have bothered to report it, because I have a rather rare hardware setup with an Thinkpad T490 with Intel graphics and an external GPU with Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Graphics Dock (uses a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050). But I read https://mozillagfx.wordpress.com/2020/02/18/challenge-snitch-on-the-glitch-help-the-graphics-team-track-down-an-interesting-webrender-bug/ so maybe it helps.

Here's the `about:support`:

Thanks for filing. I believe we've had other reports of this kind of problem coming back from suspend with the Nvidia binary drivers. Could you check whether you see the problem if you only have the Intel GPU connected?

Flags: needinfo?(nachtigall)

I've never seen these glitches with the Intel GPU, only with NVIDIA.

FWIW, when it happens (as said only like 1 in 10) then the glitches are always and often only on the active tab of Tree Style Tab. Often these are the only glitches, that is on the page content glitches are really, really rare. See new screenshot I did today. Maybe it is because the active tab of Tree Tab Style uses some rare CSS (like for highlighting and fading out text).

When it happened today I did:

  1. Resume (after having suspended for long time, over night)
  2. Enter password and Unlock screen
  3. On Top of all windows was Thunderbird
  4. Click on Firefox Nightly in left Ubuntu taskbar
  5. Firefox shows the glitch until moving mouse
Flags: needinfo?(nachtigall)

I tried to pay a bit more attention to this:

  1. Seems to happen almost always if suspend was over night. Then on next morning's resume it happens almos always.
  2. I cannot really reproduce if the suspend is just for a few minutes or say no more than 1-2 hours.

Attached is a animated gif screencast I did, where you see it in action. Here the glitches of the active tab of Tree Style Tab goes away when being near it – I was surprised myself cause normally it only goes away when hovering over the glitch area itself.

This is an old known bug, duplicate of bug 1515253 or bug 1596577 (these are appearances of the same bug). It does not belong to bug 1604492 as it's rather easy to reproduce. It's the one relevant bug of proprietary Nvidia with WebRender. See:

As this is on NVIDIA, this could well be video purging. There is NV_robustness_video_memory_purge, which notifies applications when the video has been purged (https://www.khronos.org/registry/OpenGL/extensions/NV/NV_robustness_video_memory_purge.txt)
