From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/20020808
BuildID: 2002080808
I had a large number of sent messages stored in 'Sent'. I deleted them all, but
the list of numbers contained in each folder (actually I think they are not
folders but composite filews, are they not?) continued to say '1' for the number
of messages stored in 'Sent'. When I clicked on this nothing appeared, but I
have been unable to get rid of the '1'.
Re 'Reproducibility': this does not apply to a static, permanent situation.
Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Send many messages.
2. Delete all messages in the 'Sent' 'folder'.
3. Click on '1' to open remaininmg message.
Actual Results: 'Sent' continues to say '1'. When clicked, nothing appears.
Expected Results: 'Sent' should indicate that nothing is left.

WorksForMe using Mac/2002080208/9.2.2. I had 511 messages in Sent, selected all, and
deleted them. Now there are no mesages in Sent, and no number displayed in the "Total"
column.
Michael, select your Sent folder, and do View/Messages on the menu bar. What option is
checked? Is it All?
You should try to reproduce this problem. Try sending some messages. Make sure you can see
every one of them in your Sent folder. Delete them all. What happens to the unread and total
counts?

Greg, 'All' is checked in View/Messages, and I have reproduced it: I deleted a
further lot of messages from 'Sent'; it still said '1', and when clicked showed
nothing at all. Clearly the 'Sent' file is somehow corrupted. Can I get a new
one? Can I copy the one from Netscape 4.79, which behaves properly?

You can just delete Sent.msf - it will get regenerated, with the correct count.
The alternative is to have a message in it, delete it, then compact the folder
(it's a local sent folder, right, not an imap one?) - that will cause the db to
get regenerated.
If that doesn't work, then the problem is in panacea.dat, but I suspect it's
really in Sent.msf

Bienvenu,
Thank you very much. Deleting 'Sent msf' did the trick, and now it is working
normally.
bienvenu@netscape.com, do you have any idea what might cause this condition?

No, I don't have any idea how to reproduce this.
Is there anything else he can do, like attach his Sent.msf or panacea.dat? Or, should this just be
closed?
Could this be a dup of bug 143324?
I also remember seeing some other bugs about incorrect unread counts for News (bug 71728).

Greg, I'm afraid I deleted the Sent.msf file, so I can't send it.

Didn't realize this was still 'live'. I have had no more trouble of this kind
with successive builds of Mozilla (I am now on Mozilla 1.2.1). I suspect this
should be closed.
