Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:73.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/73.0

Steps to reproduce:

Create an SVG element, place a text element inside with a few words, and assign letter-spacing to it. View this on Firefox Mobile for Android. (v68.5.0).

Tests available here, with both attribute and CSS: https://codepen.io/chriskirknielsen/pen/poJWgVW

This is reported correctly as unsupported on MDN's SVG letter-spacing page, but I cannot find out why.

Actual results:

The letter-spacing attribute is ignored.

Expected results:

The letter-spacing should be applied to the SVG text element.

Component: General → SVG
Product: Firefox for Android → Core
Version: Firefox 68 → 68 Branch

Seems to work on on a Mac. If this is only an issue on Android then perhaps it should go back to that rather than core->SVG.

this isn't implemented till Gecko 72 and you're reporting the Firefox for Android version as 68.5.0 which is less than that.

Per https://www.ghacks.net/2019/04/26/the-future-of-firefox-for-android/

The legacy version of Firefox for Android won't receive new feature updates anymore when it moves to the ESR channel. The browser won't receive support for new web technologies anymore, nor will it receive any other feature updates. Bug fixes and security updates will be provided.

So I guess you'll need to wait for Fenix.

Thank you Robert, I was totally oblivious to this situation. I guess this answers that. Thanks, and take care! :)
