+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #754190 +++
Cloned the FIrefox bug because it's the same issue in Thunderbird.
I'm on Windows 10 with Thunderbird 68.5. Thunderbird reminds me consistently that there's a later version to update to with a pop up in the top right. But if I click Learn more... I'm take to a page that shows me that 68.5 is the latest version.
Here's the popup:
Here's my version:
And Here's the Learn more...
Those images not showing on the preview (in spite of Markdown help suggesting they should I guess), so links are:

As an update it's worth noting that I'm on Windows 10 and that I'm getting the pop up again but now it's expected, as in I''m on 68.5 and when I click "Learn more..." I see that 68.6 is available. I'll update and guess I'll see if after that the pop ups continue.
I can confirm that the issue is also present on MacOS (Sierra and Mojave 64bit), i.e. on my machine for some months now.
- Popup appears, although up to date
- Last automatic successful update according to update history entry was 68.3.1 of 3. JAN 2020
- At the time of writing i have the current latest version of 68.8.0

I have the same issue in Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon. Thunderbird 78.4.0 (64 bits)
I have the same issue in Wiindows 10x64 21H2, Thunderbird 102.1.0 (64 bits)
Is there a solution to the problem? Where to look?

Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 21H1
OS build 19043.1889
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4180.0
Thunderbird Version 102.1.2 (the latest for now).
Same here.
Updater popups every day.
Perhaps the problem comes from installation on top of the 9x version?

Good afternoon! Perhaps the first installation was an old version of 9x. We need to check. At the moment, I have banned updates via the Windows registry key. There are no notifications.

I just wanted to add that this is also happening to me on Win 10 Home. It's version 102.1.2 of Thunderbird. I even tried downloading it and installing it again, and still keep getting the same popup a few times a day asking to update.

Same happening here Version 102.2.2 (64-bit) said it couldn't auto update to 102.2.3 and I should download full package.
This I did, and now (daily) it is prompting that it can't autoupdate and I should download full... But I am on 102.2.3 already!

Thunderbird updater keeps asking to update (even after updating to latest version)
I have installed the latest version 102.3.1 (64-bit). However, the updater pop-up continues to state tha it cannot update my version and ask me to download the latest version.
