Details
The find dialogue (and toolbar when available) should include buttons: |< < Find > >| Meaning (and tooltip if any): "Find": existing find, in last established direction "|<" (first in page): find first in page, also CLEARS "Search Backwards" "<" (find backwards): findBackwards, also SETS "Search Backwards" ">" (find forwards): findForwards, also CLEARS "Search Backwards" ">|" (last in page): find last in page, also SETS "Search Backwards" Intentional consistency with other products (VCR-like playback control, PAGE navigation...). Universally if not found, page location does not change: first/last do NOT have side effect of navigating to start or end of the page. The existing option fields including "Search Backwards" remain. You may ignore these four extra buttons and use "Find" and the "Search Backwards" field as you have been. "Find" preserves its behavior of performing another search in the last established direction. Example uses: 1. You're in the middle of some long page (who knows how I got here), and wish to start a search from the top or bottom. Don't like needing to position the page first. 2. In the existing interface, when reversing direction of the search, don't like mouse moving/clicking twice (to toggle Search Backwards, then to Find). This enh. permits setting the direction and performing the search in that direction as one operation; you can ignore the mode/state (Search Backwards field) and operate mode-less.

I'm amazed at how old this bug is, yet how relevant it has become with the new Find Toolbar in Firefox. A fix to this bug would remedy the current ordering issue of the 'find next' button being placed to the left of the 'find previous' button (which is very awkward).

Something like this would be useful to put in the code base: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=75294&highlight=context+search
