  • With a fresh Firefox 74 x64 profile, visit a site that uses a lot of trackers, e.g. https://majorgeeks.com/
  • at some point you'll see the "Firefox stopped a social network from tracking you here" doorhanger (also see the attached screenshot).

Every time I see that doorhanger pop up,
at first glance the "Firefox stopped" part seems to me that it implies some system problem, that e.g. Firefox might have stopped working.

So, I believe it's more suitable to use the word "blocked" instead, because that's what the Enhanced Tracking Protection does:
it blocks sites from tracking you.

Thank you

PS. Using win10 x64

Thanks for the report. I'm going to move this over to the UI component, and folks there should be able to direct this suggestion to the right people.

Component: Privacy: Anti-Tracking → Protections UI
Product: Core → Firefox

Any opinion on this Meridel?

Hello, Should I submit a patch for this change?

Hello, Should I submit a patch for this change?

We don't know yet if we want to pursue this. I'll remind the team, and update here.

I reviewed this with legal and with Michelle Heubusch (who has more context than me). Using "block" instead is fine, but it would be more accurate to use this as header:

Firefox blocked a social media tracker

I am wondering about something else, though: we are using a permissions notification UI to surface a message that is not about permissions/not actually requiring user action. Curious—do we have any metrics about user engagement with this message? What was the goal in displaying this?

Hi Meridel, Erica shared with me a Data science ticket that I've asked if they could still support because we should have telemetry in place for this experience: https://jira.mozilla.com/browse/DS-355#add-comment(In reply to Meridel from comment #5)
