From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020530 BuildID: 2002053012 opening a new tab using a hotlink. if the link doesn't work the first time, the tab is now useless. requiring more attempts be done manually. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Note: (1) Using a 56k modem. (2) set Moz to: "middle-click opens new tab" and "tabs are loaded in the background." 1. find and load cnn.com 2. middle-click a link (known to be functional) that the browser has not been to for more than 7-days. 3. click 'ok' and kill the new tab. 4. repeat (2) & (3) until results are pleasant and useful. Actual Results: a small message-window opens and states that ""www.*******.com" could not be found. Please check the name and try again." Clicking the 'OK' and opening the tab for the "dead" link yields a blank window with no identifyers as to where or what it had been trying to do. Expected Results: The link's address should've been added to the address bar in the new tab. (This would allow for a quick 'spellcheck' of the link or a retry of the specified link.) When a high-speed modem/network/link is used, this problem becomes almost non-existant. (except for heavily used servers such as: eBay.com and, on occasion, nytimes.com or cnn.com) If the tab is closed and the link, again, middle-clicked, the page may or may-not load properly until the N-th time (sometimes as many as 7 or 8 tries are necessary to even access Google.com).

I don't know what a hotlink is, but this is a dupe (admittedly hard to find). BTW: The URL field is for URLs only, a host name does not work. pi *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 103720 ***
