User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64; rv:74.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/74.0

Steps to reproduce:

  • Since years I have seveal Firefox installations on different devices (including Mobile) ==> This problem is not related to the current version only
  • The Sync is working somehow ==> but not as expected
  • I do not have passwords properly synced
  • My bookmarks are synced in different places accross computers. I was NOT ABLE to have ONE LIST for all devices I use.

Actual results:

  • I get different (sub-) trees on differnt computers not a single valid for all.
  • Not all passwords are available on all devices. Even when all devices are synced. All devices hav a master password (different on all devices)!

Expected results:

  • One bookmark list identical to all devices!
  • All passwords shared between all devices.
Component: Untriaged → Sync

We're sorry to hear you are having this problem, but thanks very much for taking the time to make this report. We aren't sure what is causing this issue, but Sync does keep some logs which may help us find the problem. Instructions for how to locate and attach the logs can be found at https://wiki.mozilla.org/CloudServices/Sync/File_a_desktop_bug - and in particular, follow the instructions for enabling "success" logs, then reproduce your issue (eg, it would be perfect if you could create a new saved password that doesn't get synced correctly), and attach any new logs which then appear. It would also be perfect if you could do this on 2 different devices - eg, the one where the login is created, and also the one where the login fails to appear after syncing.

Could you also please open about:sync, click the "Validation" tab under bookmarks, and report the problems you see? And, would you mind sharing what other Firefoxes you have connected to your account, and their versions? (You said "including mobile", is that the old Firefox for Android, the new Firefox Preview, Firefox for iOS, a mix of these? Do you have other Firefox Desktop installs as well?)

what you get here ist the "about:sync" from 21-Mar-2020

Hi Lina,

thanks for caring ...

I cannot do this "click the "Validation" tab under bookmarks, and report the problems you see?" ... I simply do not have a "Validation" tab ...

My Android Version is: 68.6.0

Other Versions are

  • Cetus: 74.0 (Win 8.1 Pro)
  • BHL5KHWW: 74.0 (Win 10)
  • Proxima: 74.0 (Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS)
    :

No iOS products!

The fact you can't see a validation tab might be indicative of another problem - just to be clear and to make sure you were looking in the right place, here's a screenshot of the validation tab on my PC.

The logs show that you have a master-password enabled, and occasionally do not unlock it when prompted - until you do, Firefox doesn't sync. However, it appears you do unlock it most of the time and we can see Sync complete normally.

Unfortunately, none of the logs show either bookmarks are logins being changed - either on this device and being sent to the servers, nor on another device and them coming in from the servers. It does show history, for example, working fine - so unfortunately, those logs seem to indicate bookmarks and logins syncing working fine, just that they are finding nothing to do.

It would be great if you could reproduce the problem (ie, create a new bookmark and a new login), then sync on 2 different devices, then send the logs from both of those devices - the logs should show relevant activity then.

Here's an example of the "Validation" tab in about:sync

My fault :-( was not attentive enough ...

My Android Version is: 68.6.0

Sorry for the delay - I suspect this is the problem. Our new Firefox browser for Android (which should update automatically soon, but is also on the play store branded as "Firefox Preview") will almost certainly fix this problem.

I'm going to close this as a dupe of bug 769476, but full disclosure - it's not going to be fixed on the "old" Android browser.

Sorry we can't be more helpful.
