RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1426359

People

(Reporter: Fortnox2005, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:76.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/76.0

Steps to reproduce:

I type an address into my address bar wrong, like github.com/suadev/turkish-microservce-architecture-book (note that one letter is missing), and it returns a 404.
Next time I try to visit the correctly typed address, and when I reach github.com/su...

Actual results:

It autofills the wrongly typed address. I may not notice and so hit enter, or even think it is the correct URL if I don't recall the URL fully. Each time this happens Firefox only becomes more convinced that this bad URL is a good thing to autocomplete.

Expected results:

Because the page returned a 404 Firefox should not have added it to the autocomplete database.

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.
