User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:75.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/75.0

Steps to reproduce:

Compose new mail with Enable spellcheck as you type ENABLED and start typing the mail.

Actual results:

When the first words appear in the new message window my system pauses/stalls for a few noticeable seconds before the dictionary is loaded. Deterring my writing emails.

Have been using Thunderbird for years and don't remember it being as pronounced as it seems to currently be. The issue is resolved by DISABLING Spellcheck as you type and ENABLING Check spelling before sending meaning it is almost definitely an issue with loading the dictionary (or something similar)

Expected results:

I would expect there to be an almost unnoticeable delay or that the dictionary is loaded when Thunderbird starts. I am not sure exactly what goes on in the background though I am running an i7 - 8700K with 16GB RAM and on an SSD hard drive and every time I compose a new mail and start typing the compose mail window freezes for a few seconds whilst it checks spelling.

This seems to be after the first few words, I would think that surely the dictionary should load as the compose new message window is opened and not after the person has started typing.

Not a serious issue though really irritating.

I cannot reproduce on Mac or Windows. And we have no other reports of this, so I suspect a problem on your system

  1. How much memory is Thunderbird using per taskmgr?
  2. Start Windows' safe mode with networking enabled

Hi, okay will do the Safe Mode Restart just now. Added the Task Manager Screenshot, only using 135MB

Memory usage in Task Manager

The issue with regards is now resolved, though that is because I did a system refresh from an image for another reason. I see now the issue is gone for some reason, no idea why. I reinstalled from an image from 2 months ago, launched Thunderbird, it updated and now the image no longer exists.

Definitely does happen though if you can't replicate then of course it would be an issue to find the bug so if it happens again post reinstall I will post again with more steps to reproduce. Thanks for the help, sure you can close the bug, though I am pretty sure it will reoccur for some unknown reason.
