User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:74.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/74.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a new TB profile, add email account
  2. Close TB
  3. Open TB

Actual results:

Sometimes, TB after reopening is showing the default (blank) profile, w/out emails, etc.
What worth to mention, TB profile is still in the path (in my case 60GB of data).
Cannot find a solution, reopen doesn't help.

Profile (account(s)) needs to be created from scratch.

Expected results:

TB after start is always showing emails, not a blank profile.

I have copied the "broken" profile, and can upload it if needed.

Severity: normal → critical
OS: Unspecified → Windows 10
Hardware: Unspecified → x86_64

Tried starting with "thunderbird.exe -P" and selecting the profile.
Are you always starting the same binary, or are you perhaps starting one installed in some other place for some of the cases?

Yes, started with thunderbird.exe --profilemanager, I created after new profile then after closing TB just trying to switch to the old one - got a blank profile.
I'm using a shortcut at Windows task bar.

Did you also try --safe-mode?

Nope.
Still got this profile. I can try to reproduce.

Safe mode doesn't help, I was trying to create another AGAIN profile by profile manager and still old profile was not loaded as expected.

I just transferred the profile to another machine and got same story. Connected the profile via -p and got a blank profile after starting TB.
It looks like the profile is broken.

Do you get anything in the Error Console?

I did some switching between new created profile and old one.

As you can see in logs there is another username "Krysia" ("broken "profile was copied from this computer where the problem appeared), my username is "RPi", and computer where I'm trying to solve this problem as well.

Next time I will upload profile instantly, the question is if this will be secure? Regarding information inside profile...

BR,
Robert

I have the same problem again on the same computer as it happened last time.
How prepare archive with profile and w/out credentials?

Creating a profile is one thing but then do you set it as default so the 'profiles.ini' files knows what to open.
What are the current contents of the 'profiles.ini' file ?
It is in the Thunderbird folder located here: C:\Users\RPi\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird
Please post image showing contents.

What profile is set as default in this location?
Help > Troubleshooting Information
Under 'Application Basics'
click on 'about:profiles'
Please post image showing all the profiles mentioned.

For the profile you want to use, below it will be a button 'Set as default profile' - click on that button.
Exit Thunderbird then restart and state results and repost info shown in 'profiles.ini' file.

@Anje Profile was not a problem (was set as default for sure) but blank profile after reopening Thunderbird (previously with working profile, accounts, emails etc.).
I was trying to delete credentials and upload whole profile here, but after upgrading TB (Windows 10 Virtual Machine) to the latest (78.4.0) I got no problem with reopening TB and afterwards I was able to saw folders and mails.

Please close this ticket.
