162862 - trunk build loads "blank" profile; pre-1.1 restores it (Quicklaunch?)

I've been having weird problems with reset/lost profiles every time I upgrade to
a newer build; this has been happening for several months.

Now, with yesterday's builds (2002-08-14), I have a specific problem:
I load the trunk build over the top of my previous install (2002-08-05 trunk)
and the browser launched without any bookmarks.  I also found that the
QuickLaunch icon did not have an Exit option, as if it hadn't loaded properly. 
Trying to use the browser by manually entering URLs resulted in a lockup within
several minutes.

I next installed the 2002-08-14 pre-1.1 build (over the top again) and
everything seems ok now.  So, I don't know if there's something wrong with the
profile backend, the profile "converter" (during new install/upgrades), or the
Quicklaunch.  But I do know that the pre-1.1 build works while the trunk does not!
