Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0
Steps to reproduce:
If create a plugin.load_flash_only and include it on false, "VLC web plugin" is added to "Plugins". Screenshot https://habrastorage.org/getpro/habr/comment_images/817/7db/506/8177db50601121f8c6549124b6db829b.jpg
There is ViewTube addition that allows Firefox to replace the YouTube player with the VLC player. Screenshot https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/k6usq5tqtjcow2f/vlc68.jpg
ViewTube - https://addons.mozilla.org/ru/firefox/addon/viewtube/
and http://sebaro.pro/viewtube/
With this plugin in browser can view Youtube videos as 720p on very weak computers such as eeePC900 (CPU 900Mhz)
VLC developers added MIME Flash plugin to their plugin (maybe this way it is possible to run it in Chrome), and I set it in the userscript ViewTube
Actual results:
No video is added to VLC player. Developer ViewTube says it 's because of lack of NPAPI plugin support in new Firefox
Expected results:
Tell me how to return VLC plugin work. Maybe there 's a certain pref?
If there is no such pref, could you enable VLC plugin support for at least Firefox 68 esr?

Maybe this can also be seen as a feature request for FF. The general problem is that older computers are indeed having a hard time playing f.i. 720p-media on youtube with their native media player (html5). And newer computers still use a lot computing power (and therefore more electricity) playing them. So from the user-perspective, it makes perfect sense to have the option to play media files in FF with VLC. I use the same add-ons, the reporter 'andrei' uses, and in my experience, playing youtube-720p-media in VLC saves approx. 50% cpu-load...

I'm sorry but we are in the process of deprecating binary plugin support. The last remaining plugin we allow is Flash, and that will be going away at the end of the year. We're not going to support other plugins. If there are performance or power consumption problems on specific hardware, please file a specific bug on that and we'll take a look. Please specify the exact hardware int he bug so our engineers can purchase it and test.
