On pages declared as having a Japanese character-set in the meta-data, letter spacing surrounding links is compressed or overlapping. The line of text in question need not contain any Japanese. This seems to be a consistent bug with Japanese pages.
Adam, what build ID are you reporting this bug against?
I can't find an exact build number (nothing in the title bar, about box, or "get info" window), but this is Chimera 0.4.0, creation date July 24 (or is that time local to my machine?) It occurred to me (belatedly) that my exact font setup might be implicated. FWIW, the fonts I am using for Japanese are as follows: Serif: HeiseiMincho W3, 14pt Sans-serif: HeiseiKakuGothic W5, 14pt Monospace: Osaka Regular, 14pt Cursive: Hiragino Maru Gothic Pro W4, 14pt
Adam, please retest using a recent nightly build. Work has lately been done on internationalization issues like this.
Just downloaded build ID 2002081705 and the problem is still evident on the same page I cited before. (Not to mention the fact that, when first launched, this build decided it had to ping every website in my bookmarks, many of which asked if they could set cookies. Ugh.)
Seems to WorkForMe using Chimera/2002081605. Can you attach a screenshot?
Ok, I can confirm this (with build 2002081805). I've attached a screen grab of the problem area on the mentioned page, and I've seen this problem on several other japanese pages.

Confirmed using Chimera/2002081605. This reminds me of bug 148399, but that was supposed to be trunk-only, and not a problem on the 1.0 branch.

I bet this doesn't happen with Mozilla, since bug 111728 was fixed. Is this another of those bugs about rolling that patch into the Chimera branch?
This also happens in some Traditional Chinese Pages like the following - http://taiwan.cnet.com/news/comms/story/0,2000022641,20054303,00.htm The letter spacing and letter width is incorrect, which makes the paragraph goes slightly bigger.
Dup of bug 169126?
Taking.

seems fixed with 2003090102 on 10.2.6.
