Steps to reproduce:

While in Thunderbird select Tools->Add Ons and choose or download a theme that includes an image on the top part of the Thunderbird screen. Quit and restart Thunderbird.

Actual results:

The Thunderbird screen appears showing the theme graphics for a second, then "paints" over the graphic with a solid color.

Expected results:

Expected themes to appear similar in Thunderbird to the way they do in Firefox. Expected to see the colored graphic, for example a Nebula or Star Field in the top portion of the screen like we get in Firefox.

What GTK theme and Linux version are you using ?

The extension works in my Thunderbird 76.0b1 on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS with the default Adwaita theme. Still works if I switch to the Adwaita-dark theme.

Also works in the Ubuntu supplied 68.7.0.

Do you use the deep Dark theme, or a similar, for TB? If yes, you can't use a LW-theme on top of it. It can be that the theme isn't listed under themes but extensions.

I went to Extensions and disabled the Deep Dark theme and the graphics appeared.

I am using Ubuntu 18.04.3 and a custom Theme using Blackbird controls.
Disabling the Deep Dark theme in Extensions solved my problem.

Resolved by disabling Deep Dark Theme in Add Ons->Extensions.
