User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.12; rv:75.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/75.0
Steps to reproduce:
In the latest version of Firefox, clicking on the Search box produces a drop down as it always has, clicking on the Address Bar procuces a much larger drop down which is visually inconsistent.
Actual results:
Instead of being aligned with the top of the Address bar, the drop down now has a much larger white border which extends a couple of pixels above the top of the firefox window so it encroaches into the area normally used only to display the tabs.
This looks like a bug in the CSS to me.
it doesnt cause any problems, its just ugly.
Expected results:
It should appear the same as the search box (or like Google Chrome), sized to fit the top of the Address Bar exactly.
This is the same on both MacOS and Windows 10, the mac has rounded corners but otherwise has the same difference.

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.

I have the same problem I think. I would describe it in a different manner. When the address bar is not selected it sits as it should centered in its toolbar. Once you select the address bar the position of the white background of the address bar moves upward so that it aligns with the top of the toolbar. The menu that drops down from the address bar has no background but does contain text of recently accessed addresses. Since there is no background to the drop down menu it is very difficult to see the text of the addresses. This bug makes for poor usability of the address bar. This started happening when I updated to the latest Version 75.0 (64-bit) on 4/18/2020.

This is what Firefox 75.0 (64-bit) is doing as of this latest update.

I just noticed another problem with the address bar. The option to "right-click" and "Paste and Go" is no longer there.

Your problem seems completely unrelated to the original report, and off-hand it looks like some kind of profile setting. It may be caused by unsupported changes made to userChrome.css, try checking if toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets is set to true, and change it to false to verify.

We are well aware of this, but we don't plan to change the separate search box for now. We are trying to make the urlbar the main search access point for the browser; the search bar is a legacy widget that still exists because the urlbar is lacking some of the privacy features that a separate search bar can provide to longstanding users. We plan to experiment with providing such features directly from the urlbar.
As such the search bar is in maintenance mode and it's not our primary target for new features or design changes.

Marco, your suggestion solved the issue for me. Apparently there were left over settings from old add-ons which was causing the problem. These interface enhancing add-ons haven't worked in a while since the later releases of Firefox. However, some of the old settings must have remained behind. Thanks!
