Text will not enter into a text box until I manually go and select the back button again, or hit the escape key. This happens on a regular basis. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.see above 2. 3. Actual Results: see above Expected Results: after the back history is used, it should release.

apple1, are you saying that the back button pop-up menu sticks open, or that the menu closes after use, but the back button is no longer functional, even though it should be?
I get the same problem. It does the same thing for foreword too, although I use the back history a lot more commonly then I do the foreword. This happens also in the mac os x build as well. Perhaps I cann explain better... when a new window is created, both the back and foreword buttons are "hidden" - you can't click on them. The widgets are fadded out. After entering a url and going there, does the back widget become active. So the problem is, after using the history to go all the way back to the first page, the back button fades out but the menu remains. So I can't then close the menu because the button is no longer active. Although the menu is still there, covering up whatever is below. I think it also doesn't allow whatever is below (like a tab) to function. It doesn't happen every time and seemingly pops up randomly. I feel that it must be a combination with some other action that... (maybe tooltips??) This bug has happened to me many times.. I'm just not sure what the exact conditions/combination that cause it to happen.. One way to fix it is to hit foreword, close the menu and then hit back again.
confirming the floating back-menu pop-up stickiness and unresponsiveness on Mac 10.1.5 and Moz 1.1 While the menu is stuck as described, dragging around the browser window by grabbing the bar on top keeps the stuck back-menu floating in the same spot while moving the window around behind it. Closing the window with the offending back-menu makes the floating back-menu disappear.
Marking confirmed per comment 3. I can't find the dup just now.

Confirming the floating back-menu pop-up stickiness and unresponsiveness on Mac OS X 10.2 and Mozilla 1.2b (it was happening in 1.1 as well) Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.2b) Gecko/20021016 In addition to the workaround mentioned in comment #3, one can also make a selection from the floating window to get it to release. If one switches to another tab and then selects from the hung dropdown, the page does not switch (as it shouldn't--that back history is from another tab), but the dropdown does release.
Provided for those without OS X systems to see it in action. If you have OS X, you see this bug every day. :(
