STR:
- Install Ubuntu 20.04 (released today)
- Download & run Firefox Nightly.
- Look at the Nightly icon at the top left of your taskbar (just to the right of the word "Activities").
ACTUAL RESULTS:
The icon in the taskbar is shown with the wrong aspect ratio -- it's vertically stretched.
EXPECTED RESULTS:
Icon should be shown with the correct aspect ratio.
This might be an Ubuntu bug (or a Gnome bug -- note that Ubuntu 20.04 uses GNOME 3.36 according to release press about it), but I'm filing here to start out, since even if that's the case, I've only seen this for Nightly & it may be something we can easily fix on our end, too.
Also notable: Firefox release does not have this problem. I tried with Ubuntu's own packaged firefox release, and I also tried an official Mozilla downloaded tarball for Firefox release [version 75] from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ , and the icon is shown with a nice aspect ratio in both.

This affects Firefox Developer Edition as well.
However, it does not affect Firefox Beta -- Firefox Beta looks just like comment 1 (with the "flat" 2-color icon shown with a correct ratio, and with label "Firefox Web Browser") I assume something about Beta's "release branding" gets it around this issue and lets it share what I'm guessing is an Ubuntu-provided lightweight icon.

Looks like this isn't Firefox-specific. I see this for the Zoom desktop app, too -- here's a screenshot.
(I'm using the Zoom client from https://mozilla.zoom.us/download )

Someone posted about this issue on Ask Ubuntu, too (RE Zoom and Firefox DevEdition):
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1231933/ubuntu-20-04-top-bar-icons-stretched
Someone noted there that VirtualBox (installed from Ubuntu's repos via apt install virtualbox) has the issue as well, and I confirmed that locally. The VirtualBox launcher is fine, but when you actually start a VM, the top-bar icon for the VM's window is stretched as described here.
