Steps to reproduce:

when I use reader mode with narrator ( Text-to-Speech ) without an headphone jack inserted everything is working fine.

when I insert an headphone jack the audio doesn't switch to the external headphone and the sound remains produced by the notebook speaker.

Actual results:

when I insert an headphone jack the audio doesn't switch to the external headphone and the sound is still produced by the notebook speaker.

Expected results:

audio must be produced by the external headphone as soon as i insert the headphone jack.

I'm tempted to suggest that this might be an issue with the underlying OS rather than Firefox, since I'm reasonably certain that we don't choose which output device to play the speech out of[1].

Hey eeejay, I see your name annotated on some of this code - can you confirm?

I can confirm. The speech output is done via system service.

Moving this over to web speech so they can decide what to do with this, given it appears to be an MS issue.
