several people have commented that they've found that centered tabs are distracting. they'd prefer that tabs appeared left-justified. the frustration here is likely the shifting of tabs (within their toolbar region) when new ones are opened --some find it rather jarring. not sure what the best way would be to go on this, usability-wise. (i can adapt either way.) i have been told, however, that to change where tabs appear in their toolbar (to the left vs in the middle) would require rewriting the widget --a non-trivial task.
I prefer centered myself. With the consistent sizing fixed recently, there is no real problem with the tabs shifting arround anymore. Also, keeping them in the center maintains interface consistency with every other tabbed aqua app, as well as mozilla.
FWIW, and disregarding the work involved, I'd vote for using an entirely new widget anyway; more of an Adobe-style tab appearance than the normal Aqua-dialog style.
since we eventually want to replace this with another representation besides aqua tabs, we don't want to put more work into this widget.
