Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:76.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/76.0

Steps to reproduce:

Read my emails on gmail/mail.google.com in Firefox for OS X and cmd+click on a link in an email to open it in a new tab. The option "When you open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately" is unchecked.

Actual results:

Firefox automatically switches to the new tab immediately.

Expected results:

The new tab should stay in the background, leaving me still looking at the email.

Chrome doesn't switch tabs when I cmd+click on the same links, and nor does Firefox for Linux with middle-click. I haven't checked the Windows version.

Not all links are affected on the Mac either. It's probably to do with gmail's links being customised with Javascript or whatever to always open a new tab.

Summary: [Mac] Cmd+click on links in gmail switches to new tab immediately contrary to preference → [Mac] Cmd+click on links in gmail switches to new tab immediately, contrary to preference

Hi,
thanks for the details. I was able to reproduce on MacOS 10.14.5 and MacOS 10.15 in Firefox Nightly version 78.0a1 (2020-05-18) (64-bit) and Release Version 76.0.1 (64-bit).

I've chosen a component so that the issue is reviewed.

Regards,
Jerónimo.
