User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/20020721 Build Identifier: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/ Experienced this problem with a nightly build and proceeded to reinstall, to no avail. Bookmarks disappeared and short of wiping the entire profile and starting from scratch, the browser itself is unresponsive. The address bar doesn't respond either. Found that the only solution to keep my preferences and bookmarks intact was to downgrade to 1.1b. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download a nightly build. 2. Shut down Mozilla & install nightly build. 3. Let the install proceed. Actual Results: The install proceeded normally, and the nightly build started itself. The browser refused to load the start page, and the bookmarks were completely gone. The address bar also refused to respond. Expected Results: Load whatever page it's scripted to load after installing the nightly build, and properly display the bookmarks.
Overwriting a previous install is never a good idea. Lots of troubles. Marking this bug as invalid ?
Oh? It's highly inefficient for a user to have to redo his preferences AND bookmarks every god damned time a new build comes out. I could understand it for Internet Explorer, where a new version comes out like twice a year, but not for something that is updated just about every day.
Well, preferences are not stored in mozilla directory. They are stored in profile, and I made (until 20th august) a daily update of trunk builds ; but having a broken quicklauch (cf bug 163725 and bug 163178 ?), and I had no problem updating my mozilla build. Just deleted all folders (but not plugins one), grabbing a zip file, unzip it, and copy all datas in mozilla directory. By the way, Mozilla is not - for now ? - for end users. NS 7.0 will be made for this kind of users. This is why I wanted to close this bug as invalid. Do you agree with me, now ?
Reporter : as 1.1 final is out, can you download it and give it a try ? Well, I want to see that bug closed if possible, so :-))))
Yeah. It works. Thanks for the interest. Marking it as invalid now, if it means anything, since it technically isn't a bug anymore. ;)
