User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0
Steps to reproduce:
<0> install Firefox <77.0b5
<1> set browser.urlbar.update1.expandTextOnFocus false
<2> update to Firefox 77.0b5
<3> search web for how to remedy
<4> find Bug 1613699 and try the replacement---no effect
<5> restart browser---no effect
Actual results:
Attention grabbing and very distracting blue border is showing around the address bar. I recall first seeing this months ago, when an arcane combo of config options successfully restored the subtler UI. These config options and their ancestors (s/update1/update2/) seem to no longer have any effect.
Expected results:
The config option should properly disable the [[[[EYE GRABBING]]]] border.

That pref has nothing to do with the input field expansion or the border you see. That can't be disabled because it's the default focus style of the urlbar.
Dear Macro Bonardo,
I did mention that it was a combo of arcane prefs that contributed. And I can assure you that the "default focus style of the urlbar" could have its volume turned down in versions prior to 77.05b. Perhaps you could point me to some documentation that says otherwise?
Moreover, a Reddit thread from 3 months ago suggests the pref that was fixing everything was browser.urlbar.update1=false
. The initial bug report was maybe written a few bits too hastily; but I did update all of the update1 prefs to update2---this one included.
After a little more investigation, it seems that this functionality was intentionally removed. Bug 1627969 seems relevant but lacks any useful information.
Why have you marked this as invalid? At best it is WONTFIX.
