If a user saves an encrypted email message in a
local folder, the email message should be stored
in the clear (decrypted), with any signatures
intact.

Email encryption should only be used for email
transport, not for storage. If the locally stored
messages need to be encrypted, they should be
encrypted using a different method. (Perhaps
local mail folder encryption should be a related
enhancement request.)

This will reduce the need to keep many old private
keys around to decrypt old encrypted email messages.

I don't think that this bug belongs here. There should be a generic solution for all encrypted mails (OpenPGP and S/MIME).

I think You are right. I am glad there is a response, since the original bug was files 16 years ago.
I wanted take this chance to draw attention on this bug, as I think it is really important for mass adoption of email encryption by average users.
