DoH panics kernel on 10.15.4 when VPN is used intermittently

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_4) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/83.0.4103.61 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
With Catalina 10.15.4, if you launch Firefox and connect to a PPTP VPN via the System Preferences (you can manually configure it in the O/S--it doesn't matter) then surf anything on Firefox. Then quit Firefox and disconnect the VPN (or vice versa) then reboot the Mac. The system hangs until you get a kernel panic after a watchdog timeout. Going into about:preferences and disabling DoH under Network fixes the problem. At least 2 systems--a Mac Mini and a Macbook Air exhibit same symptoms.
Actual results:
panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff7f8c57daae): watchdog timeout: no checkins from watchdogd in 308 seconds (844 totalcheckins since monitoring last enabled), shutdown in progress
Expected results:
It should have not done this :)

This might be something out of our control, but let's fight with it.
Firstly I'd like to check the STR.
Does the system hangs immediately you start to surf on Firefox (like enter something in address bar)?
The 10.15.5 update fixed this. I changed it back to the DNS over https and it has not crashed (yet) so I'm closing the ticket for now. Will reopen if it crops up again.
