Below is a link to a screen capture of trying to playback this video (Mozilla employees only): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD24QjP2oLQ

I get audio, but video immediately freezes. My other Mac with Nightly seems to be fine, but this is reproducible for all videos for me on this computer. I am also have the problem on Beta, but not on Release. Let me know how I can provide more debugging information.

Could you navigate to about:config edit:about:support and copy the information from there onto this bug? Could you also capture a profile using the media preset in the Firefox profiler and attach it here?

I captured this profile: https://share.firefox.dev/3h1BYl8

from watching this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAaHNYxkS_E

Clean user profile running up to date Nightly.

I'm not sure if the capture in comment 0 would contain audio if any was playing, so looking to clarify some details.

  • When this happens does the audio keep playing and it's just the video that freezes? Or does everything freeze (i.e. no audio)?
  • Do you see any output in the web console (Tools -> Web Developer -> Web Console)?

I've got the same. Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok, Dailymotion work. YouTube and Netflix don't.

Correct.

Well, hmm. I'm still running build 20200605043926 and now Facebook, Netflix, and YouTube are all working normally again. I'm not sure what changed. Yesterday and all week those sites were broken for me.

I updated to 20200607093436 and videos continue to play properly.

To be honest, this bug comes quite in the same time that the fix done about Google Meet for the video.

79.0a1 (2020-06-08) (64-bit) and still not working for the moment.

Does the issue still happen on beta? Could you use mozregression-gui to look for the changes introducing the problem?

This morning, video playback has regressed again to the behavior I originally reported (audio plays and video freezes after the first frame). I'm still on 20200607093436 and haven't restarted or updated.

When I first reported this, it was broken on Beta and Nightly for me, but Release was working fine. I'll try to find time later today to use mozregression.

Erwann, what commit is that? I can keep an eye out when I do the regression analysis.

As @bryce asked me, my about:support in attachment.

In about:config could you try toggling media.av1.enabled to false and see if that has any impact? It should require a page reload but not a restart to take effect. The pref can be reset after testing.

It doesn't change anything, no, sorry.
